Winter Writers

winter writer books“Writer” and “winter” are very similar words. Coincidence? Perhaps not.

Winter is the best time of year to be a writer. This is especially true in chilly Wisconsin. And even more true in Mineral Point! Because it’s during winter that award-winning authors come to Mineral Point to stay in our historic lodging facilities and do what they do best.

Shake Rag Alley’s “Winter Writers Series,” now in its second year, allows writers to be week-long residents of Mineral Point and work on their craft. These talented writers also take the time to share the secrets of good writing by leading workshops, visiting the schools, and participating in public readings and programs.

This Thursday, January 24th (at 6:30pm), historical fiction author Kathleen Ernst will be at the Mineral Point Library to provide some insight into her process. Her Wisconsin-based, The Heirloom Murders, part of her Chloe Ellefson mystery series, was named Best Fiction Book of 2011 by the Council of Wisconsin Writers. In addition, Kathleen has written many of the mystery books for the American Girl series, including books for the characters Kit, Molly, Caroline, Kirsten and Josefina.
