Move over cows! For the first time in its 29 year history, the Iowa County Dairy Breakfast will be held on a goat farm.
Dennis and Elaine Schaaf will host the event on their Grade A goat farm just outside Mineral Point. The milk from their 240 goats goes straight to Montchevre in nearby Belmont – maker of many award winning goat cheeses.
Anyone in the vicinity this Saturday is in for a treat. The breakfast itself is a high point – scrambled eggs with cheese and sausage, yogurt, pancakes, milk, coffee, more cheese (cow and goat) and for dessert – ice cream sundaes. You gotta love a breakfast that comes with dessert!
After your meal, you get to explore the farm and learn about the goat milking operation. There will be a petting zoo, live music, balloonists, games, door prizes (cheese), tattoos (probably temporary) and a goat booth (?).
The price for all this is $6 for adults, $3 for children aged 4-10 and free for children under 3. Breakfast runs from 6:30-10:30 am Saturday June 1st — rain or shine!
For more information visit the Iowa County Dairy Breakfast Facebook Page and if you just can’t wait until Saturday morning to see live-action goats, visit the Montchevre Goat Cam.
