Veteran’s Day on High Street

photo-349Snow was falling on the crowd assembled in Library Park for the annual Veteran’s Day ceremony – one of three ceremonies held in town today.

At the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month in keeping with the tradition, the American Legion fired their rifles –

and played Taps.

In the center of park stands a monument to the men and women who made the supreme sacrifice for their country. It was recently spruced up, so you can walk right up to it and read their names.  Here’s what it looked liked before:

Perhaps you saw Roland Sardeson, a veteran himself, put in countless hours refurbishing the area around this monument.

It looks especially good at night, thanks to the new lighting system.

Now, we can all pause here — anytime of day — to remember the veterans in our lives. And, to thank them for their service.
