Apparently Valentine’s Day is expanding into a month-long holiday.
At De la Pear (12 Fountain Street) they’re celebrating “30 Days of Love.” It’s been going on for a couple weeks and continues through Valentine’s weekend. According to the new De la Pear Facebook page, this Saturday (February 1, 2014) Monica and Aaron Dunn (of Point Five) will be performing “background music with sounds of love!” I’m not sure what that means, but it’s the Dunns, so you know it will be great.
And, if that’s not enough, Roland Sardeson — maker of frozen luminaries and little libraries — will be reciting “a twist on a Valentine’s Day poem during intermission.” I’m hoping that means Roland will once again don his straight-jacket (who else has a straight-jacket in their closet?) and recite Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart. It’s a 10-minute, in-your-face performance you don’t want to miss. During Halloween, Roland gave a surprise performance at the Walker House. Here’s a clip:
OK, sometimes love can be deranged. But when you’re trying to fill an entire month of love, you have to cover all types.
For another entertainment option — tonight and on most weekends — head to the Gray Dog Deli, which transforms into a jazzy, late-night wine bar. Click on the image (at right) for the upcoming line-up. And, if you can’t make your way home at the end of the evening, book a room at their lodging establishment on the 2nd floor, called 23 Steps Inn. Better yet, book in advance!
Most visitors to Mineral Point, Wisconsin will say it’s a year-round romantic destination, but for the next few weeks it’s your place for crazy love.
