Shake Rag Alley is a great place for your kids to make a giant mess that’s not in your house.
The summer schedule for the Shake Rag Alley Youth Program is now online – click here to browse through it.
These small classes fill-up fast, but right now everything is available – including perennial favorites like the Free Arts Camp, Cementimals, Laura Ingalls Wilder Day, Be in a Play, Make a Ceramic Platter, Magic Tricks, Birdhouse Gourds, and Paper Marbling to name a few. An exciting new addition is Steam Punk Owls.
A notable highlight is the week-long “Build a Paper Mache Creature” in which students work as a team to make, paint, and embellish large and small creatures to march down High Street during the July 4th parade.
Many of the classes are taught by area artists, giving the kids a wonderful opportunity to get to know these folks.
Participants get to enjoy the grounds of Shake Rag Alley, recently described by the Cedar Rapids Gazette as “a fairy garden enlarged to accommodate real people.”
The Shake Rag Alley Youth program is for boys and girls, elementary, middle, and high school kids, locals and visitors.
The cost for most classes is $15 and scholarships are available. Click here to sign up today!

Such a great schedule–thanks for posting this! I’ll post it in my next calendar update, too. So fun to see what all is offered each year. The kids will have a ball.
