Free Winter Writers Series Event Kicks Off Wednesday

photo-556Shake Rag Alley invites the public to a free event this Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. in the Lind Pavilion as they kick off this year’s first evening event of the Winter Writers Series.

This Wednesday meet Catherine Jagoe, the recipient of the Council for Wisconsin Writers’ Kay Levin Short Nonfiction Award.

Catherine is an accomplished essayist, poet, and freelance translator.  She will read from her award winning essay “A Ring of Bells” and share her experiences as a writer.

This is the first in a series of Wednesday night literary evenings at the Lind Pavilion.  Mark your calendar for these upcoming Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to meet award-winning Wisconsin authors as they talk about their craft and share their work.

o Catherine Jagoe: Nov. 18th
o Nikki Kallio: Feb. 3rd
o Cathryn Cofell: Feb. 24th
o Chloe Krug Benjamin: March 9th
o Kimberly Blaeser: April 6th
o John Hildebrand: April 13th

This is the 5th year Shake Rag Alley has hosted the Winter Writers Series.

The idea is to give these award-winning writers a chance to get away for a 5-day writing retreat. Lucky for Mineral Point, each one is kind enough to engage in a community event while they are here.

In addition to those speaking at the Lind Pavilion, several writers are heading to the Mineral Point Schools.  In fact, last week, poet and blogger Lisa Vihos talked to Mineral Point High School students as part of the Winter Writers Series and wrote about her visit in her blog Frying the Onion.

So, in the next few months, if you encounter a visitor to town in the middle of the week, in the middle of winter, don’t be surprised if you’re meeting an award-winning writer.
